AS part of National Armed Forces' Day and as an integral part of this year's Exeter Festival, a parade will be held through the city centre.

The parade will be led by Her Majesty's Band of the Royal Marines Plymouth, and will march along Fore Street, past the Guildhall to the Corn Exchange.

Soldiers of the 6th Battalion, The Rifles, many of whom have recently returned from active duty in Afghanistan, will be joined by contingents of the Cadet Forces, Royal British Legion, Standard Bearers and banners of ex-service associations, as well as ex-servicemen and women.

Okehampton branch of the Royal British Legion will be represented on the parade and veterans from the town and district are urged to join in the occasion.

The parade will be an opportunity for everyone, young and old, to show their support for the servicemen and women, past and present, and for those currently on operational duties in Afghanistan.

Following a short break for lunch, the Royal Marines Band will perform a Beating the Retreat ceremony in front of the cathedral, starting at 2pm.

It is recommended for those wishing to take part or watch, to travel by the Sunday train service from Okehampton to Exeter Central station, leaving Okehampton station at 10am and arriving at Exeter Central at 10.45am.

There are two return trains at 3.06pm and 5.05pm, arriving at Okehampton at 3.48pm and 5.47pm respectively. The fare will cost £5 return. The parade will be on Sunday, June 27 from 12.30pm from Sidwell Street.
