Okehampton and District Lions Club president Ian Snell presents a cheque for £200 to Georgina Geike. Georgina who lives at South Tawton, is Britain's top lady pistol shooter and double British Record holder, and hopes to compete in the London 2012 Olympics. She has just finished competing against the world's best at the world cup final in Munich and Milan where competitors were coming to their peak in time for this year's Bejing Olympics. In the last nine months Georgina has become British champion and broke the British records in both disciplines in which she competes. British coaching staff believe the dream of competing in the 2012 Olympics is within her reach. Since the Dunblane massacre in 1996 the .22 pistol has been banned in this country so Georgina has to travel to Switzerland to train for this Olympic discipline. In 2006, she won a bronze medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, but now has a much tougher and more expensive training regime. It takes up a lot of her time and most of her remaining spare time is filled with work to help fund the training. Okehampton Lions were delighted to be able to help this promising young woman achieve her aims and wished her every success. Also pictured are Lions Club members Pat Shea and Dave Parish.
