OKEHAMPTON factory worker Luke Cummings has won a brand new £1,000 scooter, thanks to Devon Wheels 2 Work and West Devon Borough Councils West Devon Connect.

Scores of people entered a free prize draw by visiting the borough councils regular Connect outreach surgeries for a chance at winning the great prize.

It was Lukes name that was drawn out of the hat and the win couldnt have come at a better time for the 20-year-old from North Tawton.

His old bike was costing him dear in maintenance bills, and as public transport between his home and Okehampton is infrequent, he was beginning to worry about how he was going to get to work.

Luke said: I knew I needed a new bike but it was a question of how I could afford it. When I was told Id won the scooter, I couldnt believe it. Im absolutely delighted.

Luke completed his entry when he visited the West Devon Connect Hatherleigh outreach surgery.

Max Jowett of Devon Wheels 2 Work, who donated the bike for the competition, said: Our key aim is to support people in rural locations to be able to travel independently to work and as luck would have it, in this instance, Luke won the competition. Were really pleased for him.

Devon Wheels 2 Work is a social enterprise organisation based near Okehampton who offer subsidised motorcycle and scooter loans to people throughout the county to enable them to get to places of training, education and employment. Over the past two years, the organisation has helped more than 300 people.
