THE FUNERAL of a prominent local figure, Derek Godfrey-Brown, took place on Monday. He died on Wednesday January 5, aged 70.
Mr Godfrey-Brown was well-known around Okehampton for his various community roles, which included serving on Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council and founding the St George's Day Breakfasts in 1995, celebrating England's patron saint.
He was also instrumental in setting up Okehampton Farmers' Market, and fought to keep the annual pancake race at Okehampton Primary School in the face of rising insurance costs and red tape.
Town and county councillor Christine Marsh, who worked with Mr Godfrey-Brown on a number of occasions said: 'He was always coming up with ideas and schemes for the benefit of the town.
'His heart was very much for the town, and he will be missed.'
Mr Godfrey-Brown's funeral took place at Exeter Crematorium and was attended by many friends and family members.
