BRIAN Warren, the Devon co-ordinator for Farm Crisis Network, popped into the Salar Gallery in Hatherleigh recently to launch the print 'Market Day' by Shan Miller.

A total of 173 copies of the print are being sold to raise money for the charity, with the gallery holding an open exhibition on the launch day to raise funds.

The gallery also sold cream teas throughout the day. The event raised £150 for Farm Crisis Network.

The charity helps farmers through difficult times, with their volunteers having farming and pastoral understanding so they can properly support those looking for help.

The painting, 'Market Day', was inspired by the Hatherleigh livestock market soon after the foot and mouth crisis of 2001.

The choice of producing 173 special edition prints was deliberate, to match the number of cases of foot and mouth in Devon in 2001.

The gallery is currently running an exhibition displaying a range of Shan Miller's work alongside that of photographer Chris Chapman, which provide a contrasting look at the foot and mouth crisis.

The exhibition runs at the Salar Gallery until September 24.
