OKEHAMPTON College U14s played against Exeter School in the final of the Exeter and East Devon Cup.

Exeter kicked off straight to Jack Williams who made his best run of the match up the side line smashing past four opposition players. Both sets of forwards were trying to dominate at rucks and mauls, with Exeter getting on top. The Okehampton backs tried to move the ball but poor hands led to the strong Exeter full back running in for a score to make it 5-0. The away side' s spirit was not hampered and Okehampton came straight back, with strong forward play from Liam Sampson and Jonny Aylen leading to a quick Liversidge snipe and pop to Billy Searle who scored levelling the score at 5-5.

Okehampton's lack in concentration gifted the Exeter fullback another try due to poor tackling from at set play to put the home side ahead 12-5. Soon after the kick off, quick thinking Zac Ponsford tapped a penalty and off loaded to captain Giles Heard, who broke the line and stepped the fullback for an outstanding solo try to level the scores at 12 apiece.

From the restart Exeter came back strong with their fullback crossing for a third time. Just before the half time whistle Kyler Burns and Luke Liversidge made a superb double tackle on the opposition number eight, turning the first half momentum in favour of the Okehampton side. The second half opened with the score at 17-12, and Okehampton returning the kick through Angus Mortimore who charged through the Exeter defence only to find his hard work undone when a knock was given.

Liversidge delivered quick ball to Searle, whose quick feet outwitted his opposing ten on the half way line, with work still to do Searle stepped a further two tackles before sprinting to the line, beating the Exeter full back just in time to touch down and convert his own try to put Okehampton ahead 19-12. Silly mistakes led to a penalty for the Exeter side, whose fullback took the opportunity of three points and the lead at 20-19.

An exceptional solo effort from the opposing fullback to put Exeter ahead 27-19.

Okehampton's shortest player made the steal of the day, Josh Punchard, finding one arm was caught in the ruck, somehow found the strength to stay on his feet and rip the ball of an opposing forward which then fell into the hands of Jack Williams who dived for the line, with an unsuccessful conversion from Searle, Okehampton were down by three points.

With the 'away side win' rule for drawn cup games, Okehampton supporters knew a successful penalty would secure the win. Searle converted to the sound of the final whistle to steal the match. Team spirit throughout the squad including subs was outstanding.
