THE mayor of Okehampton has completed a gruelling cycle challenge to show support for his two mayoral charities. Cllr the Rev Mike Davies was in Red Lion Yard on Saturday from 8am, pedalling on his exercise bike for six hours to raise money for Tor Support Services and Get Changed Theatre Company. He was supported in his efforts by his family, fellow councillors, representatives from both mayoral charities and others, and he raised £278.68 on the day, with the promise of more collections to arrive this week. Get Changed is an Okehampton charity founded in 1995. It works with adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems using role play and performing arts techniques to develop life skills and confidence, promote social inclusion and empower people to realise their full potential. Their work is led by their participants and is designed to inspire, entertain and educate public audiences. Tor Support Services provides free, confidential counselling to five to 25 year olds in Okehampton and the surrounding parishes. TSS was established in May 2009.
