THE Okehampton area scored a number of successes at the recent Chelsea Flower?Show with Exbourne landscaper Peter Harket striking gold and two silver-gilt medals for Bowden Hostas at Sticklepath. Peter Harket project managed two gold medal winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens for Crocus; the Laurent-Perrier garden, which won the coveted best in show award, and the Daily Telegraph garden, which also won a gold award. He led the organisation and construction of the two gardens, working with designers to help lay out the plants and displays. The two golds meant he has now won 16 golds in total over a number of years working at the show. The Laurent-Perrier garden was designed by Luciano Guibillei. It featured a green and yellow mix of euphorbias, lupins and foxgloves, and an elegant water feature in the middle of the garden. The Daily Telegraph garden was designed by Tommaso del Buono, and featured a blend of some of the guiding principles of Italy's great historical tradition reinterpreted in a 21st century vision. Mr Harket said: 'It is absolutely marvellous to win. Though I have now got 16 golds, you don't take any for granted, and you keep working hard each year to improve and win more. 'We have a really good squad – my job is to get the plates in the air and then keep them spinning. You try to develop new approaches, and there are different challenges to overcome. But winning again is a wonderful feeling.' Peter runs his own business, PH Landscaping, as well as working for Crocus. Tim Penrose owner of Bowden Hostas, received two silver-gilts out of his three exhibitions from the Chelsea Flower Show, and said that even though he was going for three gold awards he was 'very pleased' with the company's success. 'Sometimes you win and sometimes you learn. 'I am undeterred — all the fun is in the chase and the chase is on for those three gold awards next year.'
