I WAS interested to see the old photograph at the gates of Okehampton Castle (June 15).

My grandparents, Rosina and John Hawkins, were caretakers of the castle around about 1914, and lived in the lodge with their children, Betty, Richard and Florence (my mother). It is Betty and Richard who are pictured by the gates.

Sadly, the lodge was demolished when English Heritage took over the castle in the late 1960s.
