OKEHAMPTON and District Men's Probus Club celebrated its 800th meeting on Monday.
The committee, club members and founders met at the Conservative Club, reaching the milestone at their latest fortnightly meeting. Okehampton Probus was founded by Mr William Cornish, the town jeweller, in 1975. The club has continued to thrive, with membership open to retired and semi-retired business and professional persons.
Club chairman John Darch said: 'The meeting went very well, and it was good to see so many of the club's members and founders come along.
'We felt it important to thank all the founding members and everyone who has helped the club along over the years. We were all in a celebratory mood, and it was a great morning.'
The club often invites guest speakers to meetings on a topic of interest for members. A third of the meetings are now held in Chagford.
