YOUNGSTERS performed a brand new family musical at Chagford's Jubilee Hall recently as the culmination of this year's Starling Arts Summer School. The summer school is a jam packed fortnight of theatrical fun for over 40 young people from Chagford and the surrounding area. The youngsters involved performed 'Return to Aesop', a musical set against the backdrop of some of the ancient storyteller's best known fables, including The Hare and the Tortoise and The Boy who Cried Wolf. The performance, written by Anna Shields and Emily Cook, follows the story of a young boy and his quest to find his place in the world. Anna Shields, co-founder of Starling Arts, said: 'Starling Arts is about telling stories using the arts and bringing people together in the process, and this musical embodied that ethos. 'With a cast of 42 young people with an average age of just eleven, and five young backstage crew, Return to Aesop was not simply a kids' show, but was well structured and well performed. 'While not singling out any individual performances, it should be applauded that solo numbers were sung by no fewer than eight teenagers, plus the enthusiastic chorus.'
