AFTER losing 5-2 at home to Dawlish United the previous week in their first league match of the season, this away defeat in the Devon Senior cup was a vastly improved performance, as a bare eleven held division 2 side Broadclyst for 75 minutes before conceeding two goals as both teams went for the win.

For the first three quarters of the game both defences were on top, with Lee Gilbert outstanding for Zeal, then in the last 20 minutes the game opened up, and after a good move involving Harley Cann, Redd Cann and Tom Reilly, Darren Gilbert was put through, the home keeper made a very good save to keep the score at 0-0.

However within a few minutes Broadclyst took the lead as a cross from the left found one of their strikers who gave Reg Wonnacott no chance from close range. Zeal now pushed forward but could not find a way past the home defence and conceeded the second after a break and another simple finish.
