A NEW music-making project in South Tawton is being organised by folk arts development organisation Wren Music.
The Dartmoor Youth Folk Band will offer a great opportunity for the eight to 18-year-olds, for both musically experienced youngsters and beginners to play together.
Workshops will be led by two of the leading stars of Devon's new wave of young folk artists, Matt Norman and Jackie Oates, who are multi-instrumentalists and singers, composers and songwriters.
The Dartmoor Youth Folk Band is the latest initiative of the innovative Mix 4 Six project, which brings together the expertise and experience of Wren Music, Devon Education Services, and Devon Music Service. Mix 4 Six aims to enable more young people of all interests, abilities and backgrounds to participate in music making through high-quality, school and community based provision.
In 2009, Mix 4 Six is running in six areas of Devon, one of which is the Okehampton Learning Community.
No experience or music reading is needed and everyone is welcome to come along and bring a favourite acoustic instrument, or borrow one from Wren Music's stock.
Workshops will be held on Monday evenings from 6pm to 8pm, at Church House, South Tawton from Monday, June 1 to Monday, July 20.
