PARKLANDS Leisure Centre is improving its facilities by investing £14,500 in a range of news sports equipment. The investment in the equipment is part of a wider regeneration of the centre, which will be finished by June 6. The new equipment, which has now been installed in the centre's gym, consists of five new treadmills, three recumbent bikes, four upright bikes and four cross trainers. The centre will be closed to redecorate and have a new carpet installed from Monday, June 2 until Thursday, June 5. Jon Smith, contract manager at Parklands, said: 'We are very excited about the arrival of our new equipment. Our members take their fitness very seriously and it is a priority of ours to ensure that they have easy access to the best equipment available. 'We are sorry that the centre will have to temporarily close but we promise it will be worth the wait.' To celebrate the new decor and equipment, members of the public will be invited to attend free taster sessions at the centre on Friday, June 6. The following day, the centre will host an all day sports '1Life Festival' where a range of free and fun activities will be on offer. Activities run from 9.15am to 4pm, including free gym access, spinning and badminton classes, and one lucky competition winner will receive a year's free membership. Jon Smith said: 'We're really looking forward to inviting our members, and those who have never visited our centres, to come along and celebrate a healthier way of living with us at the 1Life Festival. 'We've got lots of activities available for the community to take part in, and maybe even try something they've never done before.' To find out more, call Parklands on 01837 659154.
