A?PROPOSAL for the installation and siting of external horticultural units outside the front of Waitrose will be considered by West Devon planners next week.
The firm wants to install three horticultural units outside the store, the largest measuring approximately four metres in width, 1.6 metres in depth and 2.47 metres in height. Two smaller units would be placed either side of the main unit, and there will be two pallets. All structures are moveable and not permanent.
The planning officer has recommended conditional approval for the units, 'considered to be a relatively minor addition to the retail sales at the supermarket.'
The officer considers the sale of horticultural goods to not have a significant detrimental impact on other businesses in the town, and are an 'acceptable ancillary addition to the existing retail sales with the store'.
The units would not hamper access to the store, though the proposed floor plans indicate the relocation of cycle parking.
The plan goes before West Devon's planning and licensing committee on Tuesday, April 9.
