SHE stole the heart of a nation — Evita is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics and book by Tim Rice.
Evita charts the story of Eva Peron, wife of Argentine dictator Juan Peron, from her humble beginnings through to the extraordinary wealth, power and status which ultimately led her to be heralded as the ‘spiritual leader of the nation’ by the Argentine people.
It features some of the best loved songs in musical theatre, played by a live orchestra under the baton of Paul Foster, such as Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, Oh What A Circus, You Must Love Me, and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.
Directed by the acclaimed director Mark Sidey and choreographed by Carole Wilson, PGS Theatre Productions are staging this popular musical at the Devonport Playhouse from March 27 to March 30.
With a stellar cast featuring Helen Haviland playing Eva Peron, Mike Noble as Che, Pete Clement as the Argentine dictator Juan Peron, Greg Pannell as Magaldi, Anna Dunford as the Mistress and making her debut with PGS, Lucy Oliver as young Eva.
For Tavistock man Pete Clement it will be his 20th principal role with PGS since 2000.
‘I haven’t missed a year but this is a new role for me, said Peter. ‘It’s a fabulous show with a completely new directing team and Helen Haviland is magnificent as Eva. She is one of the best mezzo sopranos in the Westcountry.’
Helen in fact is Pete’s vocal coach and he has played many a part alongside her.
Over the past year Pete, who has been a mainstay of Tavistock Musical Theatre Company (TMTC) since 1997, has performed in TMTC’s The King and I, Spamalot with PGS and as Grandpa Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Princess Theatre in Torquay.
Pete said although he enjoyed playing all his roles particularly Grandpa Potts, the Pirate King in the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance was his ultimate favourite and a role he has played three times.
The smash hit show Evita performed by PGS truly promises to be an evening of pure entertainment and lovable music.
Don’t miss it!
