WORK on the Betton Way link road in Moretonhampstead has begun.

The scheme is an extension of Betton Way up to a new roundabout at Chagford Cross on the A382.

This will provide a new link road, improving traffic management in Moretonhampstead, reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and the environment of the town centre.

The works are being carried out by Aggregate Industries and is estimated to cost £716,000. The works are programmed to take four months.

Solar powered cats eyes are being used at the Chagford Cross roundabout to minimise the number of new streetlights.

Planning permission for the scheme was granted in December 2010 following a public consultation in July 2009.
