Cllr resigns

CHAIR of the Okehampton Town Council parks committee, Cllr Teresa Edwards, has resigned from the council for family reasons.

Alongside her role on the Parks Committee, Ms Edwards also acted as the council's liaison with the police and the Okehampton Community Recreation Association, and is on the town's Fairtrade group.

For hospice

THE Okehampton and District Lions Club coffee morning held in the town's Church Hall on October 30 raised a grand total of £257.92.

The monies will be donated to Childrens' Hospice South West.

Rob Saxby, on behalf of the Lions, said: 'The Lions would like to thank all those who kindly supported the event.'

Village market

THE November village market at Spreyton was organised, as usual by Maddy Mullen to raise funds towards hosting the senior citizens Christmas lunch for the village trust.

Bacon baps, coffee and mince-pies were sold by Elizabeth Williams, Jenny Porritt, Wendy Sincock and Angela Hawkins.

Raffles were sold by Eve Collins and Elizabeth Daw. A Christmas cake, made and given by Alethea Kennerley was raffled by Cleave Collins. This was won by Betty Endacott.

A Magnificent profit of around £300 was raised.

Complaint

A COMPLAINT has been sent to West Devon Borough Council regarding the cleanliness of the Fairplace public toilets.

The town council has asked the borough council to adhere to the required standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the facilities.

Craft fair

CHRISTMAS starts early in Okehampton this Saturday (November 13) with a craft fair in the church hall in Market Street in aid of Cancer Research.

Many local craftspeople will be there with cards, Christmas cakes, knitted goods, toys and home accessories.

The event runs from 9am to 1pm and there will be a raffle and tea and coffee.

Roadshow

CHRISTMAS will be coming early for young football fans in Okehampton this year. The town council has agreed to again grant Exeter City Football Club free use of Simmons Park for its Soccer Roadshows.

The roadshows encourage participation in sport, with coaching on all aspects of the game for children of all ages and abilities. The next roadshow will be in Simmons Park on?December 20 and 21.
