KEEN gardeners are in for a treat this month with a talk on Plantain Lilies.

Founder of North Dartmoor Garden Club Roger Bowden will be giving the talk on the plants, also known as Hostas, which he has specialised in growing for many years.

Mr Rogers and his wife have staged exhibits at the country's major flower shows and have won numerous awards, including Gold Medals at Chelsea and Hampton Court Royal Horticultural Society's shows.

The chairman of North Dartmoor Garden Club, Barry Starling, said: 'Hostas originate from Japan and have become very popular over the last twenty years, not so much for their flowers, as for their diverse colours and shapes of their leaves.

'They are firm favourites with both garden designers and flower arrangers.'

The talk will be held at Belstone Village Hall on Thursday November 27 at 7.30pm. Mince-pies will be served later in the evening and all visitors are welcome. There will be a £1 entry fee.
