A MULTI-MILLION pound investment to improve care facilities in Okehampton has been announced by PSP Healthcare.

PSP Healthcare, the owners of Aalen House nursing home in Okehampton and the group behind the new retirement village in Hatherleigh, have confirmed they will be investing £7-million in a redevelopment of the nursing home.

Plans are currently being finalised to redevelop the old Aalen House into a new facility that will offer improved nursing care accommodation and assistive technology for the elderly.

Aalen House registered manager Jan Hazell said: 'Aalen House has provided a high standard of nursing care for its residents for many years.

'We are looking forward to continuing this service in a brand new environment, giving the residents and staff the opportunity to benefit from up to date technology and facilities.'

The new development will incorporate sensory gardens, a 'snoozelum' and a cinema as well as nursing and residential care beds and close care flats.

PSP Healthcare operations director, Wayne Shermon, said: 'This is a very exciting project that will really put Okehampton on the map in terms of care provision and will bring a number of employment opportunities to the town.

'With the retirement village opening in Hatherleigh this summer, we recognised this as an ideal opportunity to improve the facilities at Aalen House.

'We will continue to provide for all of our current residents by relocating them to Hatherleigh, who knows, some may even decide to stay there!'

The new Aalen House is due to open in 2009. Anyone requiring further information or who wishes to make any comments should contact Louise Luscombe at PSP Healthcare on 0870 2861313 or by e-mailing [email protected]">[email protected]
