CHILDREN from Spreyton Primary School enjoyed a special day out on the South Devon Railway — to learn more about rare breed animals.

Class two pupils travelled via the railway to the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm.

The children got to spend time in the petting zoo with baby chicks and guinea pigs, feed bay goats and learn about the many types of owl native to the British Isles.

Executive teacher Stuart Busby said: 'We had a great day out and we are endebted to the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm for opening especially for us on the day.

'It was thrilling to see our children learning in an alternative environment and interesting to hear the range of thought provoking questions they asked. My personal favourite was "Why were trains more comfortable in the past than they are in the present day?"'

In a celebration assembly the following day, the class presented a recount of their trip using iPads.
