South Molton Colts 3

Okehampton Colts 92

ON dry pitch the Okes were soon into their stride turning over possession from the kick off in the first league game of the season and using quickly presented ball to stretch the home defence.

With the ball reworked after a couple of phases captain Thomas White dived over in the corner for the first try.

The visitors then launched a superb display of attacking rugby. With the ball moved away from the heavy South Molton pack at every opportunity the Okes back line ran some great lines with tries from Craig and Luke Dennis, Dean Andrew, and Chris Courtier quickly followed with Craig Dennis and Dean Andrew sharing the conversions.

The forwards continued to provide a regular stream of possession with Folland, Francis, Hughes and Moyes all working tirelessly to provide possession from which the back line continued to prosper with further tries the product of good handling and great lines of running.

To their credit the South Molton lads determined efforts were rewarded just before half time with a well stuck penalty to put their first points on the board.

The early part of the second half saw the game enter an untidy stage. With some 'white line fever' entering the Okes game the home side were able to spoil some of the visitors possession. South Molton started to gain confidence with some strong forward based drives but the Okes defence held firm and having reverted to the expansive game the score board again started to tick.

The Okes were now keeping the ball alive at every opportunity. Jordan Cornthwaite, who was the provider for several tries including a superb offload for the try of the match by Henry Cooper, was eventually rewarded with a brace of tries — the result of good support and strong running.

Club debutant David Todd-Jones added to the try roster and with Dennis and Andrew keeping the percentage of conversions ticking over the final score rose to 3-92.

Full credit must go to the South Molton lads who never gave up.
