A NEW social group for the over 50s in and around Okehampton is just being formed and looking forward to welcoming members.

Oke-dokey starts its first meeting on Thursday morning, July 22, in the Fountain Inn, and those taking part will enjoy a cup of coffee and chat with like-minded people.

Ali Fife, a community development worker for Time for Life, which is organising the group, said: 'It's an opportunity for people to talk about what they would like to do in the coming week or so — perhaps seeing a film, going for a walk on the moor, going shopping, or using the computers at a community centre — but don't want to do it on their own.

'Perhaps there is someone who feels the same and they could go together. Or if people just want to meet up with others for a chat over coffee, that's fine too.'

Anyone over 50 can come along, any Thursday at 10.30am in the café bar at the Fountain Inn. There is nothing to join and no fee to pay.

Time for Life works mainly through mentors to assist people over 50 who have become socially isolated. Where there is a need for extra activities and groups in an area, the Time for Life project offers support to get things started.

Volunteers are being sought to help ensure the group continues.
