OKEHAMPTON Mens A tennis team secured maximum points away to Exeter Golf and Country club in their final match of the season.
The 8-0 victory gave the team an unassailable lead and means they will finish as champions of division two of the Exeter and District Tennis League. Throughout the season Okehampton have lost only one match and drawn two, winning the other 11.
The regular partnerships of Ali Mason and Roger Froud, and Andy Herrod-Taylor and Dan Arnot both recorded convincing wins to round off a successful season and gain the club a maiden promotion to division one, the highest division of eight in the mens' section. The highest tier of the league represents a big step up in standard and Okehampton are looking forward to the challenge.
The promotion would not have been possible without a number of other players from the club who played their part in bringing in valuable points across the season; they were Adam Richards, Paul Love, Stuart Jarvis and Chris Searle.
Okehampton Tennis Club runs two more mens teams, who play in divisions five and eight respectively of the Exeter and district league. There is also a ladies team who play in division two and two mixed teams.
As well as competitive tennis there is also social tennis and coaching available for all ages and abilities at the club.
