AFTER an encouraging start to the season Okehampton Men's B tennis team suffered a disappointing defeat away to Victoria Park D.

John Radnor stepped in at short notice to partner Chris Searle and they made a promising start taking their first set 6-3. However, they lost the next set and the championship tie break and then suffered a heavy defeat against the opponents number one pairing.

Stuart and John Jarvis made a disastrous start losing their first set 0-6 and although improving, lost the second 4-6. However, they recovered their form to win the second match 6-1, 6-0 to give Okehampton three points overall.

In the next match at home to Cranford B John and Stuart Jarvis lost a tight match against the number one pair 4-6, 4-6 but secured an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory in the second rubber.

Chris Searle was this time partnered by his father, Arnie, and they enjoyed a 6-1, 6-2 win against the opponents second pairing. They then took a vital set by 7-5 before eventually losing in three sets to the Cranford top pair. This 5-4 victory keeps Okehampton B in contention in the top half of an evenly contested league.

Their next match is at home to Seaton C who are presently in second place.
