OKEHAMPTON Beavers have won a national competition to name the new character in the beaver logbook, which is used by youngsters across the country.
The national beaver logbook was recently re-designed, it helps beavers keep track of their adventures after they join, supports them through getting badges and awards and contains vital information about their own beaver colony.
Beaver colonies from across the nation were asked to put forward names for three new characters that play a big part in the logbook.
Okehampton Beavers came up with the idea of calling the new fox character Rusty, which national scouting leaders then chose as the best name.
The beavers were particularly proud of winning the competition to name the fox, as he has lots of energy and loves playing games, just like they do in their weekly meetings.
Beavers are the youngest section of the scouts and are between five and eight-years-old.
The group in Okehampton are now looking forward to their idea of Rusty the fox being seen in print by beaver groups all over the UK.
The logbook is designed with a wide variety of characters to help the children learn about diversity. The other two characters in the book will be Brooklyn the bear and Danny the dinosaur.
