OKEHAMPTON Judo Club students make good progress through the British Judo Council syllabus at club and area contest gradings.
Primaries: (under 10 years old) Caleb Bourne (3 orange tabs), Ben Bowles (3 green tabs), Sam Cause (3 blue tabs); Juniors (U16 years old) Emily Main (white belt, l yellow tab), Alex Fox (white belt 2 yellow tabs), Haydon Perrior (white belt 3 yellow tabs), Sam Whalley (yellow belt), Chloe Koroma (yellow belt), Robert Wood (yellow belt), Alfie Budd (yellow belt 1 orange tab), Robyn Ranford (yellow belt 2 orange tabs), Emma Timmins (yellow belt 2 orange tabs), Ella Percival (green belt), Levi Dove (green belt).
Seniors: Victoria Lowe fifth kyu (yellow belt), Matt Jelley fifth kyu (yellow belt), Hannah Coombes fourth kyu (orange belt), Emma Beacon fourth kyu (orange belt), Peter Barnes fourth kyu (orange belt), Yan Whitchurch fourth kyu (orange belt).
To grade above third Kyu (green belt) students have to grade at area or national gradings due to the contest element in which they have to win a minimum of three fights against students of their own grade as well as demonstrate the relevant techniques and Kata all on the day.
