OKEHAMPTON Ladies tennis team have had mixed fortunes in their last two matches in division two of the Exeter and district Tennis League.

On May 12 they played host to a strong Tunnels team and were unlucky not to come away with a point.

The Exeter based team's first pair played with relentless consistency beating Beth Carter and Jackie Jarvis 6-3, 6-2 and Angela Herrod-Taylor and Jo Thompson 6-1, 6-1.

Okehampton faired better in their matches against the other Tunnels' partnership. Both Jackie and Beth, and Angela and Jo forced a tie break from the visiting pair, but unfortunately neither could close it out to take the set.

Roles were reversed when the Okehampton club entertained Exeter Golf and Country Club 'C' the following week.

Beth and Jackie dominated from the off with Beth's powerful groundstrokes and Jackie's oppressive coverage of the net not giving either of the visiting pairs much of a chance. They won their matches 6-2 7-5 and 6-1 6-2. Angela and Jo took a little time to settle in both encounters but managed to emerge as winners in two topsy turvy matches.

Jo produced some blistering forehand winners to help the pair recover from two dropped opening sets; 2-6 6-2 10-5 and 1-6 6-1 10-7. This impressive result gave Okehampton eight much needed points.

Okehampton ladies next match is on June 9 at home to Kingsteignton.
