OKEHAMPTON is set to hold its Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile this weekend — and organisers are putting out the call for people to step forward and take part.

People from across West Devon and surrounding areas will be walking or running themselves proud during the event in Simmons Park on Sunday, March 20 to raise money for Sport Relief 2016.

Since it started, the Okehampton Mile has raised more £30,000 for the charity.

Fun runners can choose to run one, three or six miles to do their bit to make a difference to people living across the UK and the world’s poorest communities. Setting off from the OCRA Pavilion in the Park, the Okehampton Mile will pass through Simmons Park and the Ockment Valley and promises to be as memorable as in previous years.

OCRA’s Stuart Lord said: ‘The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in West Devon is here and it’s your time to walk, run or move yourself proud. Everyone is welcome, from little ones with their mums, dads and grandparents, to runners up against the clock and their friends, or people wanting to enjoy a lovely walk, there’s something for everyone to make themselves feel proud on this special day.

‘Fancy dress is encouraged and dogs are allowed on leads. There is also a whole range of other free sporting and arts activities on the day.’

Participants have two chances to run, walk and move on the course at 10.30am and 11.30am; registration opens at 9am.

There will be a whole range of other free sporting and artistic activities going on throughout the day and the OCRA Pavilion will be open for refreshments.
