WITH reference to Margaret Woollacott's recent letter about the war memorial, I have to agree with Pat Dayman's comment on having the memorial in the park for several reasons.
Getting a taxi or lift up to the church memorial is not the same as a short flat accessible walk in the park, which would allow individuals with limited mobility access to the memorial all year round.
It is far more convenient and central to have it in the beautiful setting of the old Victorian park. People would see it on a daily basis as a reminder of our brave soldiers and those that have given their lives for us, rather than tucked away in the corner of a remote spot like the cemetery — where normally only church goers will see it.
The town lacks a focal point for Remembrance and relocating in the park would serve as a reminder to everyone that walks through our lovely park regularly.
The old bandstand near the Swiss Cottages would be a perfect tranquil spot.
