NOMINATIONS for the West Devon Mayoral Awards, are currently being deliberated by Okehampton Town Council, which is encouraging residents of the town to put forward nominations of their own.
The annual awards recognise people and organisations who have done something particularly noteworthy within the borough, has enhanced the reputation of the borough on a national stage, or has made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.
There are three awards to be given out. The West Devon Mayoral Award for under 18s, the West Devon Mayoral Award for over 18s or an organisation, and the Mayor's Green Award, for an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.
Town councillors discussed potential nominees at the latest policy meeting on Monday. They also hoped that local people and organisations would send in nominations of their own to acknowledge the successes of people in the Okehampton area.
Cllr Kay Bickley said: 'I am sure that the town council could put forward some names for this award, but I think we should encourage the people of the town to think about this and put people forward.
'Perhaps they are aware of a young person making a positive impact in the town, someone with national sporting success or other achievements. I hope people will send in nominations to the borough council.'
