WITH a growing number of running clubs in the South West there are more races appearing on the running calendar and new challenges for runners to take up.
Okehampton Running Club member Jane Jackson travelled to St Dominick in East Cornwall to run in the Dom's Dash — a race that has been mothballed for several years, but has been resurrected by the Plymouth Musketeers, a club formed three years ago.
The five mile course is along country lanes down to the River Tamar near Cotehele before rising steeply back up to St Dominick. Despite only being a short race the name Dom's Dash is perhaps a misnomer as the course is quite challenging with the last two miles being uphill.
Finishing in a time of 41 minutes Jane won her age group, coming sixth lady overall and also setting a new club record for the distance. Held on a lovely summer's evening the very friendly atmosphere of the race made it worth the trip with all proceeds going to the Plymouth based charity Jeremiah's Journey.
