THE latest 'Ground Force Day' at Chagford Primary last weekend was a special one — the school celebrated the completion of its new vegetable garden and tool shed.
Children, parents, teachers and governors enjoyed food and a glass of elderflower bubbly.
Vegetables grown in the new garden will supplement food in the kitchen and encourage more healthy eating.
Since the school became 'self-performing' in September, there has been an increase in children having school lunches, and pupils have helped to choose the menu.
The school is working towards a bronze award from the Food For Life Partnership Awards as well as working toward an Eco-School Award and the Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy.
Tony Rubra, chair of governors, expressed thanks to all who contributed to making the project possible, including Gidleigh Park Hotel, HoCCO,and fundrainsing from the Allison family. Other help was given by Hilton Supplies, John Robinson Plant, Hi-Line, GrowChagford, Webbers and Bowdens.
He also expressed thanks to the numerous parents and children who, through many months of hard work and giving up Saturdays, have helped the project.
