AN Okehampton resident is taking part in a tandem parachute jump to raise money for charity this weekend.

Janet Carpenter, who has lived in Okehampton for the last 30 years, is doing the jump to raise money for sufferers of Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Mrs Carpenter, who suffers from the condition herself, said raising money for cancer charities is important to her.

She said: 'I lost my brother to cancer about 11 years ago.

'I have always done quite a few bits and pieces for cancer research, but losing him has made me do more.'

Mrs Carpenter has already raised £600 for the 15,000 tandem free fall, but is looking for more donations.

The jump will take place on Sunday, September 20 from 1.30pm at the old airfield at Dunkeswell, near Honiton.

Anyone who wishes to sponsor Janet can do so by dropping into the Red Lion Bazaar.
