AN employee from Barclays Bank in Okehampton recently took part in a bike ride in aid of the Stroke Association.

Pauline Taylor, personal banker, carried out the Thames Bridges Bike Ride challenge as part of the Barclays employee volunteering programme and raised £311 — an amount Barclays matched under its match-funding scheme.

Pauline completed 33 miles and 14 bridges in just under three hours and 57 minutes.

She said: 'At Barclays we are committed to communities and we are delighted to support the Stroke Association.

'This is a lovely example of Barclays staff working closely with the local community to achieve something which we hope will make a real and lasting difference.'

This year, a team of more than 1,600 cyclists turned up to raise money for the charity.

Marie Reynolds, from the Stroke Association, said the amount Pauline raised was enough to fund the charity's national helpline for 15 hours.

She said: 'This is a great achievement and really will make a difference to the lives of those affected by stroke that we support.

'The money raised through the Thames Bridges Bike Ride will go towards research into stroke prevention, education and rehabilitation for stroke survivors.'
