DETERMINED staff members at Parklands Leisure Centre recently completed a 24 hour treadmill marathon to raise money for charity.

The foolhardy fundraisers ran simultaneously on two treadmills from 9am on May 8 through to the next morning, with volunteers taking it in turns to keep the treadmills going continuously to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and WheelPower, the national organisation for wheelchair sport in the UK.

Their efforts raised approximately £122.50 to be split evenly between the two organisations.

Jonathan Smith, contract manager at Parklands, said: 'The team managed to run roughly from here to Bristol, about 107 miles. I'm still really sore, as I did about eleven and a half miles, and I am not the fittest member of the team.'
