FAR from a rubbish job — that was the opinion of Okehampton Town Council about the refuse collection service during the snowy Christmas period.

Town councillors resolved to write a letter to West Devon Borough Council on behalf of the town to thank it for the excellent service the town had received, in spite of the weather.

Cllr Letchford said: 'The cold snap brought refuse collections in other areas of Devon to a standstill, with rubbish left to pile up on the streets. Here in Okehampton I think we actually received a very good service.

'We're always eager to write to the borough council when things go wrong, so I think we should give credit where it's due.'
