THE brave woman from Okehampton who had her hair shaved to raise money for a charity close to her heart, has expressed thanks to all who supported her.

Karen Hendry, who handed out sponsor forms to shave or not shave off all of her 25 and a half inches of hair, raised £1,685 for Cancer Research UK.

Karen said: 'The response was fantastic — I feel very privileged to know so many kind hearted people.

'It was great fun to do and I'm sorry to all those who didn't want my hair to be shaved but it will grow back.

'I did the maths and it works out to be £66 per inch, which is unbelievable.

'We are absolutely stunned at how much was raised and are just so grateful to everyone.'

Karen, who first started fundraising for charity when she was seven-years-old, received a certificate when she walked around the ring road for The National Blind School.

'I hope to continue doing fun things to raise money for different charities,' added Karen.
