A PUB in Okehampton is on a mission to raise as much money as possible for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, hosting its next event on Friday, November 30.

Staff and regulars at the King's Arms have so far raised mre than £2,200 for the charity, with a 2012 calendar and events including a ladies' night on November 16.

The fundraising continues at the pub on Friday, November 30, with a charity auction with a range of top quality lots.

Among the top items are a signed Manchester United pennant signed by star players Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa, signed shirts from Premier League clubs Fulham FC and Queens Park Rangers, tickets to see Exeter Chiefs, Somerset County Cricket Club, Torquay United and Bristol Rovers, drumsticks signed by the band the Levellers, and much more.

There will also be a raffle and the auction promises to be a fun night for all. The event kicks off at 8.30pm.

The fundraising push has been instigated by landlord Rob Bass, who has suffered from MS for the last 18 years. Rob is taking on a personal challenge of his own next year, as he will carry out a 250 kilometre dogsled through northern Norway and Sweden on April 6 to raise as much money for the charity.

Rob said: 'I'm already preparing for the challenge, I have been up to the gym a few times, and I have been told to put on some weight, which is proving surprisingly difficult.

'My MS will definitely add to the challenge of the dogsled. I had to get a letter from my neurologist to clear me to take part in the challenge, and it will be very difficult, but I am determined to raise as much for the MS Society as possible.'

The pub is also selling King's Arms 2013 ladies calendars following the success of the 2012 calendar. Each month will have a picture of a regular from the pub in a Calendar Girls-style pose. The calendars are available from the pub, costing £3.99 each, and will also be available to buy on Edwardian Evening. All proceeds will go to the charity.
