SHEBBEAR College Junior School pupils have been on an epic challenge to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro – or their own version of it at least.
Children climbed the school stairs together to collectively climb the height of the mountain in support of parent Kate Griffin, who is to climb Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and money for people suffering from dementia with lewy bodies (DLB).
DLB is a form of dementia that shares symptoms with both Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Kate's father suffers from the disease, and he is her inspiration for the challenge.
Every child in the junior school took part in the challenge. By counting the steps in one circuit around the junior school, then recording the number of steps made by each child, the school was able to measure that children effectively climbed the height of Kilimanjaro together.
