A VISIT to the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Heritage and Learning Resource in Okehampton has helped primary school children learn about the history of policing. Children from Okehampton Primary's Kitty Tor Class visited Okehampton Police Station to meet with serving police officers and the team of knowledgeable volunteers who took them through 200 years of policing, from the earliest beginnings of fire watchers through to today's sophisticated service. Pupils got to try out a range of police clothing, and the different methods of communication the police have used over the years. The visit was part of the class's Okehampton: Past, Present and Future project, and will help children develop their writing over the half term. The learning resource is not currently open to the public. The resource's friends group are hoping to turn the archive into a museum in the future, and would welcome any support. If you can help, drop into Okehampton Police Station to find out more.
