AN eventful year has been planned by Hatherleigh Rotary Club, from its August fun day to its first ever beer festival.
The varied programme of events has been organised for 2009 in order to help raise money for many deserving causes, and to welcome visitors to join as new members from all walks of life, regardless of age or gender.
Next on the agenda is the 'Racenight' at Hatherleigh Community Centre this Saturday, March 14, at 7.30pm, which is one of the club's main fundraisers for local causes.
Other activities include the annual fun day to be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, a quiz night on May 16, and its 'big' beer festival on June 5 and 6 at the Waie Inn.
Then on July 1 it is all change with Bruce Luff taking over as president from Peter Roberts for the forthcoming year.
President-elect Mr Luff said: 'We have a varied programme of events during the coming year, some of which are new to us.
'One of those is a quiz night planned for May 16 in the community centre. This event is to raise funds for some of our international projects and is being organised by the club's past president and international chairman Fraser Lynn.'
Mr Luff added: 'It is not only an honour to have been elected by my fellow members to this office but also a great responsibilty to carry it out properly and to the benefit of all concerned.
'The club itself is made up of people from all walks of life and experience, something I plan to draw on heavily during my year as president.
'We are open to members from both sexes and I was particularly pleased to have welcomed our second lady member, Cheryl Buxton, recently to the club.
'We are a dedicated and very committed club and we do not bite! We have lots of fun and work hard to raise funds for deserving causes.'
Anyone interested in attending one of the club's meetings is invited to visit the Bridge Inn, Hatherleigh, at 7.30pm on a Monday.
