WEST Devon is all set to create a huge stir as people from across the borough join in for the world's biggest coffee morning.
Tomorrow (Friday) is the official date for the world's biggest coffee morning, the flagship fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support with last year's event raising more than £7.5million raised for the charity.
There are a series of events taking place in and around Okehampton with one running at Fairplace Church from 10am until midday.
Joyce Brockman, organiser of the Fairplace event, said: 'I'm taking part in the world's biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support because the money we raise will help them carry on with the wonderful work they do.
'It's amazing how having a laugh over a cup of coffee can help people living with cancer and Macmillan uses this money to provide much needed support to people affected by cancer.
'I urge everyone in Okehampton to hold their own coffee morning. It doesn't matter how much you raise because every penny will be used to improve the lives of people affected by cancer — so join in and make your cup of coffee count!'
The Moorland Ladies' Group in South Zeal are also taking part in the event and invite everyone to call in at the Recreation Ground Pavillion in the village between 10am and midday to enjoy coffee and cake while at the same time raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
South Zeal resident, Ursula Radford, said: 'Many will recall many years ago that local people struggled to raise funds in Okehampton and surrounding villages to engage two Macmillan cancer nurses to provide their specialist services to the community.
'The nurses' salaries had to be found from money raised and this was achieved by volunteers organising events and coffee mornings.
'During that time many local families were helped at their time of great need and are ever grateful for the dedicated nurses that came to live in and near South Zeal.
'Times change but cancer care is as much needed now as it ever was.'
This year, Macmillan is hoping to raise in excess of £8.5million to make it its biggest and best event yet.
