OFFICERS, friends and local representatives from St John Ambulance attended a service of dedication at the opening of the new premises for the Okehampton headquarters.
St John Ambulance has rented two units which will serve as a training area for all members, and will enable them to run first aid courses for the local communities.
The smaller of the two units will be used for the ambulance and can also be used as an extended training area.
Lord and Lady Clinton opened the new premises, and the service of dedication was conducted by the Rev Philip Wagstaff. Local dignitaries, including the deputy mayor and mayoress of West Devon, Cllr and Mrs Hockridge, the mayor and consort of Okehampton, Cllr David and Jack Weekes, and county councillor Christine Marsh, attended, along with representatives of local organisations.
Representatives of Devon St John Ambulance were also in attendance, including the commander David Hayward, chairman of the St John Council in Devon John Dempster, president of North Devon area Roger Jacob, area superintendent Jo Lethaby and other representatives from divisions in North Devon.
The organisation received a donation in memory of Renee Squires, who was an active member for many years, and Lord Clinton unveiled a plaque marking the day.
St John Ambulance expressed thanks to local businesses and individuals who gave their support.
St John Ambulance is a voluntary organisation, which supports events in providing first aid cover. St John Ambulance welcomes new members, both cadets from 10 to 16 years and adults from 16 upwards to help provide first aid and support.
