FIRE crews rescued a horse which was stuck in a ditch in Sticklepath on Tuesday morning.

Two crews from Okehampton and the specialist rescue teams from Barnstaple and Exeter attended the incident just before 9am.

They found the 35-year-old, 16-hand horse fallen on its side into a two metre deep dry ditch.

A heavy duty winching system from Exeter was called in and the horse was eventually rescued uninjured and left in the care of its owner, who was having the horse checked over by a vet.
