THE final fundraising totals are in for the 'Cream Tea Run', with the charity motorcycle event raising more than £700.
Cheques for £353.13 were presented to representatives from Hospiscare and the National Association for Bikers with a Disability at the Rockhen's Coop in the Arcade last Thursday.
The event, in its third year, was held over the weekend of June 3 to 5. On the first night, riders were treated to a relaxing evening of acoustic music before setting off from the London Inn on the ride the following morning.
They rode down to Boscastle for a spot of lunch before riding back to Okehampton, all in an effort to raise funds for Hospiscare and the National Association for Bikers with a Disability.
The day was rounded off with a fundraising party with a barbecue and live music from seven bands, including local favourites First Requiem, What Crisis? and Rock Salmon.
Janice Elson who was an organiser for the event, said: 'It was fantastic, couldn't have been better, the weather was perfect. Everyone supported it so well, I've never seen so many people there.'
'We had about fifty riders, and about two hundred and fifty people came to the fundraiser in the evening.
'Last year we managed £158 each, so we've more than doubled what we did. It was really great.
Gay Hill, the clinical nurse specialist for Hospiscare in the Okehampton area said: 'Donations like this mean a lot to us, especially at the moment.
'We need to raise enough money to keep nurses in the local area, and we very much appreciate any fundraising for Hospiscare.'
When asked about planning for next year's event, Janice was enthusiastic: 'It's already sorted! We've got nine bands already in line for next year and we're hoping for a bigger and better weekend.
'We're expanding the bar and expanding the venue, so we're all on track for the next one. We'll be aiming to raise a grand next year!'
