WORK on the first stage of the Betton Way Link Road in Moretonhampstead will get underway on Monday.
The building of the controversial link road is scheduled to take around nine weeks and will improve the junction of Court Street and Betton Way through the construction of a new mini roundabout.
The road will eventually provide a link between Court Street and the A382 at Chagford Cross. Parts have been constructed as part of the Forder Meadow housing development and the new primary school. It is hoped the link road and other traffic management measures will reduce traffic congestion in Fore Street and Court Street, and improve safety.
More than 30 objections were received during the planning phase, with concerns raised over noise and air pollution, as well as claims that less expensive and more effective options had not been fully explored.
