A BIG 'Oh yea!' turned into a big 'Oh yes!' as a West Devon woman shouted herself to victory. Ros Chard, Okehampton and Hatherleigh's town crier, won first prize at a national competition for town criers that took place in Ilfracombe. The competition, made up of 29 criers from across the UK, was held as part of Ilfracombe's Victorian celebrations. Ros, who was accompanied by her dog, Millie the Magnificent, said: 'I didn't think I'd be in with a shout, so to say I'm pleased would be an understatement. 'I'm rather proud to win because it was a big competition with criers from all over the country.' Ros had to give a 'home town cry' on behalf of Hatherleigh that included three 'Oh yeas' and a God Save the Queen.
