ROYALTY will be crowned tomorrow evening (Friday) at this year’s Hatherleigh Carnival Royalty evening.
A queen, a prince and a princess will be given their sashes tomorrow in readiness for the big day. Ella-May Jevons, who will be 13 by carnival day, will be crowned Queen and the Prince and Princess are brother and sister Joshua and Holly Wale, who will be aged two and six.
The Hatherleigh Carnival committee expressed its heartfelt condolences following the sad and sudden loss of the 2015 president Mrs Gill Davis. Gill was a huge part of Hatherleigh Carnival and was excited to be this year’s president. She had been on floats as a child and went on to make her first float for her daughter Nats, when she was Princess — with her now husband Mark Wonnacott as Prince — back in 1990, then went on to make many beautiful floats with Helen Reddaway and family.
Gill loved all aspects of the carnival, including the tar barrels, and was often asked to judge walking guys and floats. Gill’s vivacious presence and passion for carnival will be very sadly missed.
The Hatherleigh Carnival Royalty evening will take place tomorrow from 6.30pm in the community centre.
