PUPILS at Hatherleigh Primary School have been looking at ways to reduce car travel to school, in an effort to make the area around the school gateway safer by cycling to school.
The school is due to receive a Bikeability grant, funded by Schools Sport Partnership, which will offer groups of 12 pupils, aged ten and above bikeability training, as part of the school travel plan.
Headteacher at the school, Caroline Boother, said the new plan will offer bicycle training and safety methods for the pupils.
She said: 'The aim is to reduce the use of cars and promote safe cycling to and from the school.
'We also want to encourage and increase cycling during the holidays and the training offered will teach the children all the different safety measures they need to know.
'It will help equip them for when they ride to school and also reduce car travel.'
